Last month, some Spacia Group team members attended the Hospitality Design (HD) Expo. The HD Expo is a showcase of the top designs, products, and services in the hospitality industry. It was both inspiring and informative, as well as fun to meet some old and new friends. Our very own Laura Nankin, NEWH attended and gave some insights into this innovative show.
WHAT IS THE 2016 HD EXPO?
The HD Expo is the premier trade show and hospitality conference for its industry. Presented by Hospitality Design magazine and established in 1992, the Expo remains at the forefront by offering the newest and most innovative products and services, encouraging and sharing ideas, providing inspiration, and connecting hospitality professionals. This is achieved through classes and allowing experts to browse a variety of products, from backlit mirrors and memorable art, to extravagant furniture. It’s the perfect stage for hospitality designers to transform today’s challenges to tomorrow’s solutions.
INNOVATIVE DESIGN EDUCATION
Laura Nankin, NEWH attended a session on forecasting and trends in the industry presented by Stacy Garcia. Stacy Garcia, Inc. is a New York based design house and licensing company of fashion and interior products. Stacy has an established reputation as a preeminent forecaster of color and design trends, and is a Chair holder of Color Marketing Group, the premiere international color forecasting association.
She walked Laura and the other attendees through how a trend develops. Stacy Garcia then detailed some of the top trends to expect to see as influencers of hospitality design over the next 2-4 years. Furthermore, she warned to be aware that it can take up to two years from the time a design process begins until a guest actually walks through the guest-room door, so it is vital to be cautious of trends versus fads and insure that the design is not dated before the property even opens.
The images shown are custom images created by the Spacia Group Art Department as examples of the trends mentioned. What were some of the top design trends that Laura found?
