I love creating something unique and distinctive for each designer I work with, and I love going an extra mile — even if it means a trip to the chiropractor. No, no one got hurt (thanks for asking). It was all in the name of creative solutions.
A designer I worked with recently was seeking custom artwork for a property in Memphis, Tenn., and wanted a strong musical element in the package. The property already had a lot of artwork referencing music and the Blues, but they were tired of the same old imagery. The designer wanted to combine the iconic elements of the history of the Blues in Memphis with a clean and modern motif. After listening to the designer’s thoughts and exchanging some ideas, we decided to do something truly out of the box with a vintage guitar.
I discovered I have a good friend who owns a vintage “Epiphone Riviera” electric guitar. But what could we do that was different from the same old Blues images we’ve all seen before? How could we look at it differently? I had a great idea: let’s x-ray the guitar to show the heart of that fine instrument from a different perspective! Next question: how to do I pull that off? The answer led me on a fun journey of creativity and practical problem solving.
I considered the emergency room at a local hospital, but that was a long shot. After a failed attempt to use an orthodontic x-ray machine, I called a chiropractor friend for help. After several sessions, we were able to produce 18 x-ray films of the guitar. I digitally pieced scans of the film together like a puzzle in Photoshop and enhanced the image to create this clean, modern image of an iconic instrument. It was fun, fresh, and unique. Most important, our client loved it!
And that’s really the best part of my role at Spacia Group. We collaborate with designers on the specifications and design direction, and our team makes the creation or selection of artwork – be it local, regional, or in a specific genre – as worry-free as possible. With a range of resources at our disposal, we bring an inspired, original approach to every project. We guarantee that artwork is delivered on time and to our clients’ complete satisfaction. At Spacia Group, we believe that no matter the size of the project, there’s simply no place for commonplace.
Working with the designer for that Memphis property, we created a distinctive, one-of-a-kind piece. And that’s what I love to do: define your space as singular, special and unique.
